A good looking high-end roofing material will add curb appeal to a house and increase its resale value. Cheaper material will cheapen and downgrade the appearance of a house after 10 to 15 years and they will lower a high-end homes value from day one.

Water Absorption
One of the most important forces through which moisture affects roofs is absorption. Absorption is similar to wicking and capillary action. It's what happens when a sponge fills with water. Uneven absorption of moisture can cause shingles to deform in different ways.

Frost resistance
Polysand material can withstand temperatures from -40 to 80 degrees Celsius. Asphalt shingles do not do particularly well in climates that change drastically.
Low water absorption makes Polysand products resistant to continuous freeze/thaw cycles, in other words, it is excellent choice for climates that change drastically.
The extreme cold temperature can cause shingles to develop tiny stress cracks, also it causes them to dry and crack, shortening their lives.
Wind Resistance
High winds are a one of the major source of roof damage. Winds can lift roofing material away or damage it with debris blown from elsewhere.
As the Polysand material is as hard as stone, it is virtually unbreakable and it is hard to pull the nail through the tile. Also, Polysand Slate has a reinforced nailing place that makes it even harder to pull the tile off.
If wind blows hard enough, it may be able to pull shingles over the heads of fasteners. Poor bonding of shingles' adhesive strips is also a major reason of blow-offs.

Hail resistance
Hail damage is very widespread in North America zone and is one of the most common forms of environmental damage to roofing materials. Over 1 million insurance claims were filed in North America for just one past year.
Durable Polysand material can withstand a hit of the hummer without causing any damage. Thus, hail is absolutely harmless to Polysand roofing tiles.
Hail can be a result of missing granules, bruising and circular cracking. All this can reduce the shingles' life expectancy dramatically.

UV resistance
UV resistance is the ability of the roofing material to withstand to the damaging effect of the ultraviolet rays of the sun causing cracking, buckling, and general degradation of the physical properties of the material.
Polysand material is made so, that the color pigment and high efficient UV protective additives are mixed all the way through the mass. This makes our roofing tiles protected in all weather conditions.
Asphalt shingles are designed so that the granules block the UV of the sun and protect the asphalt. If the asphalt is exposed to the UV, it quickly dries out and deteriorates, reducing the shingles' life expectancy dramatically.

 

 

Algae/Fungus/Moss resistance
These growths can reduce the life of the roof covering. because moss or lichens growing on a roof surface will hold moisture on the roof longer than other areas. In cold regions there may be faster frost damage, cracking and wear of the roofing material.
Polysand material has very low water absorption and is absolutely porous free. Also, algae and moss doesn't grow on plastics.
Asphalt shingles are frequently affected by growth of moss and algae which spread by releasing airborne spores and lead to discoloration and increase wear and tear of shingles.

 

 

Environment safety
If you want your roof to be Eco-friendly, consider its recycled material content, how long it will last, and whether it can be reused.
All Polysand products consist of recycled post-industrial synthetics and natural sand. This compound along with a superior protective additives makes the most durable building material which can be fully recycled.
Asphalt shingles are made with petroleum and have the shortest life longevity. Most asphalt shingles are disposed of in landfills where they decompose very slowly, emitting methane gas. In Canada, approximately 1.25 million tonnes of asphalt based roofing material is discarded annually in landfills.
